Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
-
Are Elvetiko’s private medical scans covered by my insurance?
Elvetiko’s digital imaging services are covered by most major insurance providers in Cyprus, but the amount payable always depends on your coverage and whether you have a doctor’s referral. On the day of your appointment, our staff can fill out any imaging-related forms required by your insurance company; however, we do not handle insurance claims directly. You will be required to pay for the examination and make the claim to your insurance company to ensure you are reimbursed
-
How do your digital imaging centres use AI?
Rest assured, we leave the examination and diagnostic process to the medical professionals. AI models simply help us minimise scanning times and the amount of radiation that our patients are exposed to during their private medical scans. In some cases, we may also use AI to help doctors ensure accuracy and streamline tedious tasks

MRI Scans
-
Can I have an MRI if I am pregnant?
Although generally not recommended, there are no proven side effects of having an MRI scan during pregnancy. That being said, there are specific cases where doctors may refer pregnant individuals for an MRI, such as when the benefits of having one outweigh the risks. Please let us know if there is a chance you may be pregnant when booking your digital imaging services
-
What should I expect during my MRI scan?
MRI scans are non-invasive and radiation-free. During your appointment, you will be positioned in a well-lit, air-conditioned scanner, and coils will be placed from your head to your legs depending on the type of examination. As the machine produces your images, it will produce some loud thumping and humming sounds, but we will provide you with headphones or earplugs to reduce the noise. You can also use your headphones to listen to music or communicate with your technologist, who will monitor you from an adjacent room. The only thing you must do is remain as still as possible. For more information about the process, visit our MRI scans or Full Body MRI scan page
-
Do you offer contrast MRI and CT scans?
Yes, depending on the type of scan and the referral reason, we may recommend intravenous contrast. Contrast material helps your body’s organs appear more clearly in medical images
-
Can I still have an MRI if I have piercings?
Yes, just remove them before your scan for safety reasons. If you are unable to remove them, please notify your technologist
-
What if I have an emergency during my MRI scan?
Your technologist will provide you with a squeeze ball at the beginning of your scan, which you can squeeze to alert your technologist in an emergency
-
What if I start to feel claustrophobic during my MRI scan? Can I cancel and get a refund?
If you know or suspect you are claustrophobic, you can request a mild sedative prior to your scan. You can also request to have your scan time reduced; however, keep in mind that this may reduce the accuracy of your results. We offer anaesthesia for patients with severe claustrophobia, anxiety, or difficulties lying flat or comfortably fitting in the scanner. Contact us for more information
-
Can someone with past medical issues get a scan?
Yes. Because MRI machines do not use radiation, they are safe for those who have had past medical issues. However, because MRI machines utilize strong magnets, they are not suitable for patients with the following: Implanted pacemakers, intracranial aneurysm clips, cochlear implants, certain prosthetic devices, implanted drug infusion pumps, neurostimulators, bone-growth stimulators, or any other type of iron-based metal implants
Results & Reports

What does it mean if something comes up on my full body scan?
If your private medical scan shows any findings, we always recommend scheduling a follow-up scan of the area with contrast material. Regardless of your results, we recommend reviewing them with a specialist or primary medical practitioner
-
Can I get a hard copy of my scans?
Absolutely. As a courtesy to our patients, we offer a CD of your medical images upon request at no additional charge
-
How will I receive my report?
Once your results are ready, you will receive an email with your digital diagnostic report. You can access digital copies of your report and images at any time through your client portal, and hard copies can be picked up in person
-
Will you store a copy of my diagnostic images and reports?
Yes, this allows us to refer to our patients’ medical imaging history and observe the clinical significance of any changes over time. To ensure the privacy of our patients, all our centres follow European and national legislation regarding the retention of medical records. Learn more about how we store your medical information on our Privacy page
-
Will I be able to discuss my results with the radiologist who prepared my report?
Some of our digital imaging services include a post-scan consultation, during which you can discuss your results with your radiologist. Regardless, we recommend reviewing your results with your GP or the specialist who referred you. If your GP or specialist has any questions about the results, we can help them contact the radiologist who prepared them. If you are finding it difficult to find a GP appointment, we are happy to help you with the process
