What is a CT scan?
During a CT, or Computed Tomography scan, a donut-shaped X-ray tube rotates around your focus area to take various X-ray images from different angles. A computer then analyses and combines these to create detailed cross-sectional views of body parts (i.e., “slices”), giving doctors enough information to diagnose potential life-threatening diseases and injuries.
CT scans allow doctors and radiologists to analyse the shape, texture, and density of soft tissue, blood vessels, and bone structures. This helps them identify potential abnormalities and propose the appropriate treatment. The resulting images help determine the size, location, and shape of a tumour, providing doctors with crucial information to develop precise treatment plans
What is a low-dose CT scan?
A low-dose CT scan is very similar to a regular CT scan. While both processes are performed the same way, a low-dose CT scan emits lower amounts of ionising radiation, ideal for patients who require frequent examinations. Low-dose CT scans are most commonly used to monitor on-going deceases like cancer and in preventative scans
Capture a detailed slice of your health with our low-dose CT scan services
Did you know that with today’s technology, low-dose computed tomographies (LDCTs) can detect tumours the size of a grain of rice? Studies have proven that LDCT scans can reduce lung cancer deaths by 20%
Our AI-powered CT scans allow you to take control of your health today without worrying about the effects of traditional X-ray radiation tomorrow

What to expect on the day of your scan
Scanxiety is real. We’ve found that knowing exactly what to expect can help ease scan-related stress
-
Check-In
01On the day of your scan, you will start by checking in at the reception
-
Comfortable extremity and instructions
02A CT scan technologist will be assigned to you. They will accompany you into an examination room and provide specific instructions on how to position yourself based on the body parts being screened. The technologist will then leave the examination room
-
Scan procedure
03During the scan, you’ll be asked to lie on a flat bed, which will be moved into the donut-shaped scanner. You’ll have to stay as still as possible and may be asked to hold your breath, depending on the body part being scanned. The process takes no longer than a minute or two; however, it may vary depending on how long it takes for the contrast material to be administered and how still you will keep
-
Additionally
*Please keep in mind that certain metal objects, such as zippers, jewellery, or piercings, can affect the quality of the CT scan, so to avoid wearing a medical gown, please try to wear comfortable clothing that does not have any metal detailing

Everyone deserves to know what’s going on beyond the surface. Whether a GESY doctor has referred you or you are a self-referral looking for some clarity and health assurance, our doors are open
Safety considerations before booking a CT scan
-
CT scans are generally safe; however, as they use X-rays, which produce ionising radiation, they may have an impact on living tissues
-
The risk of developing cancer due to ionising radiation is low; however, it accumulates with repeated exposure, which is why we recommend avoiding multiple scans unless absolutely necessary

FAQ
-
What’s the difference between a digital X-ray and a CT scan?
While X-ray scans offer two-dimensional (2D) images of your body, CT scans take a series of images at different angles to provide a three-dimensional (3D) view
-
How soon can I get a CT scan?
We offer same-day and walk-in appointments
-
How can I make an appointment for CT scan services through GESY?
All our imaging centres are registered with the National Healthcare System of the Republic of Cyprus (GESY). To book an appointment for a CT scan covered by GESY, you must provide a referral from a GESY specialist. Once you have your referral, you can book online, contact us or fill out our form to get started
-
How long does it take to receive my CT scan results?
On average, our centres provide all MRI scan results within four business days of your examination
-
How do I prepare for my CT scan?
Wear comfortable clothes without metal detailing to avoid changing into a medical robe. Metal objects, such as jewellery, belts, and dentures, must be removed before the procedure
-
What’s included in the booking price?
Your CT scan booking fee includes a written diagnosis of your images from a radiologist, digital or physical copies of your scans, and access to an online patient portal where you can view all your reports and images at any time
